The terms Fire Engine and Fire Appliance are generic and refer to many types of vehicles, from the frontline pumping appliance to special purpose appliances such as aerial platforms, rescue tenders, command units and various support vehicles. Below are images showing over 50 different classifications of vehicles which operate in the UK Fire Service. Many of these machines have unique roles, whereas some are minor variations of another, for example, Small Fires Units, Brigade Response Vehicles and Targeted Response Vehicles all perform similar roles but have varying designations in different brigades.
