Aircraft Rescue & Fire Fighting
This page is under development

Aircraft Rescue & Fire Fighting (ARFF) appliances rely on their speed of arrival, extinguisher capacity and high discharge rates to increase the probability of fire suppression and passenger evacuation from aviation incidents. Each airfield is categorised from 1 to 10 to determine the level of rescue and firefighting resources required for the type of aircraft it operates. Category 1 is for small, general aviation airfields, while the highest, category 10, is for airfields operating the largest commercial aircraft. Therefore, ARFF appliances come in various forms, from lightweight tenders to the largest  8x8 appliances used at major commercial airports.
