Cleveland Fire Brigade, situated in the North East of England, provides fire cover to Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar, and Stockton-on-Tees. This area was formerly known as the County of Cleveland, and although the county was abolished in 1996, the fire service retained its name. The brigade is one of only two in the UK that has kept the name Fire Brigade, with most Brigades renamed Fire and Rescue Services. Like many brigades, it was formed in 1974 by the Local Government reorganisation, which saw the amalgamation of Teesside County Fire Brigade with Hartlepool Fire Brigade, as well as five stations from the neighbouring North Riding Fire Brigade (now North Yorkshire FRS).
The service operates 14 fire stations, the lowest number of any UK mainland fire service, eight of which are whole-time and six are retained. The brigade, whose appliances uniquely have white fronted livery, responded to 7,500 incidents in 2024.
