Land Rover

Land Rover began producing fire appliances in 1951 and continued until it ceased production of its original Defender model in 2016. During this period, appliances were built on most Land Rover models, including Series I (1951-1958), Series II (1958-1971), Series III (1971-1983), the One Ten (1983-1990), and finally the Defender range (1990-2016). They were used for a wide variety of duties, including lightweight pumps, wildfire units, specialist rescue units, and general-purpose vehicles. Additionally, a small number of Range Rovers were utilised as Rapid Response vehicles, mainly at smaller airfields, although some were used by local authority brigades. As the operational life of Defenders nears its end, there is a sadly diminishing number of Land Rover vehicles still in operation. Their duties are now carried out by a range of pickup trucks, which fulfil many of the roles previously served by Land Rovers. Pictured below are a selection of Land Rover appliances from various UK brigades, past and present.
