Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service is the statutory fire and rescue service covering the Merseyside area of North-West England. It was formed in 1974 by merging six fire brigades (City of Liverpool, Birkenhead, Bootle, Southport, St Helens, and Wallasey), along with stations from Lancashire and Cheshire brigades.

The service has 22 fire stations (including one marine station) and operates an innovative duty system designed to ensure that more appliances are available during busy periods. The system includes Wholetime, Day Crewing (10 am-10 pm), referred to as Low-Level Activity and Risk, Day Crewing with Wholetime retained, and hybrid, which alternates crew availability with risk levels. During the 2023/24 reporting year, the service responded to over 17,000 incidents.
