West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service
West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service is the statutory fire and rescue service for the county of West Yorkshire. The brigade was formed in 1974 as part of an extensive local government reorganisation that created the county of West Yorkshire. Prior to this, fire cover was provided by a number of brigades including West Riding County Fire Service, Bradford City Fire Brigade, Dewsbury County Borough Fire Brigade, Halifax County Borough Fire Brigade, Huddersfield County Borough Fire Brigade, Leeds City Fire Brigade, and Wakefield City Fire Brigade.
The service operates 40 fire stations, 30 of which are whole-time and 10 are retained. During the 2023/24 reporting year, the service responded to over 25,000 incidents.
